    Hi
Can someone tell me why I can't right click and delete links in "My Favorites" list.
The mouse is working correctly, I can right click and bring up a menu. Just in my favorites nothing comes up?
    Thanks
    Geri

You shouldn't have to right click (unless you are left handed) to bring up favorites. Try left click to bring up favorites...

    Hi Geri,

If i had to guess, I'd say you have some non-Microsoft item installed to your context menu handler (shell extension) and it's interferring with this function.

A quick and easy test is to get this Context Menu Editor and use it to disable all non-Microsoft items. When you run it you'll see a column that lists the program responsible for any item on your context menus. Clicking the column header will reorganize them by names so it will be easy to find the ones you need to disable for the test. It's a harmless procedure and easily reversible.

    Good luck.

I went through and disabled all the context menu one by one, (there was only one non microsoft.)
    Still can't delete?

I also did a few others that seemed to have something to do with links and shortcuts.
    Any other ideas?

Go to Documents & Settings\username\Favorites and see if can delete the shortcuts in that folder.

If you can't delete as TonyT has directed, then it could possibly be a user permission issue or perhaps Registry Key corruption.

    Check the Key at:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\Favorites

and verify that the value data string is %USERPROFILE%\Favorites

If so, then verify that you have full administrator access on your current user identity.

If those possibilities don't yield any relief, I'd suggest running sfc/ scannow and see if any files can be replaced as may be needed.

If still no relief, I'd suggest a reinstall of the IE6 browser. There are special steps you must take to do that and it's outlined here.

There is also a MS Version of IE6 repair.

If all else fails, do a repair install of XP. That will save all your personal files and settings and replace any corrupt or missing system files. Save that for the last resort since updates will need to be reinstalled afterwards. It's no big deal however. Assuming you have the XP full install CD and even easier if you have one with SP2 already incorporated within.

    Good luck.
