Someone (who won't be named) went into my control panel and clicked on a vista home premium upgrade even though i have automatic upgrades. after that when i power up i get a "3 of 3 completing. 0 percent completed" and then a shutting down screen. computer then shuts down, starts back up and the same thing happens. any suggestions? a total restore that wiped everything out and then put back to original, taking my files that could not be backed up with it, worked to get me back online, but then the same thing happened when the computer was powered up again.

If I can remember correctly ...

Boot into Safe Mode, tap the F8 key repeatedly during the startup screens. When you get to any options it will ask if you want to do a System Restore, you will need to select a restore date from the time it "...worked to get me back online..." or earlier, from before the problem started.

When you get a working system, go into the settings for Windows Update, change it manual selection. Go to the computer's manufacturer and update your drivers (plus their software programs). Make sure the system is stable again before changing back to automatic Windows Updates.

So...load a previous Windows Restore point. Don't let the same update install again. Update drivers (and software) at your computer manufacturer's website, then your can try allowing automatic updates again.
