I recently have run into a installation problem with a printer which led me to call their printer technical support who then proceeded to tell me, after reviewing my eventvwr files, that my problem was with my MSI ability and that I should Repair my Windows OS. When doing this via my XP Disk, pressing R, it asks me for an Administrator Password which I don't believe I have but then logs me into C:\Windows. How do I proceed from there?

I believe that particular 'fix' is trying to use the 'recovery console', and if you are like about 99% of us, you didn't set it up it before the problem arose.
Try this instead. Use same procedure, boot from the XP disk, at the first offer to repair windows (where you were before) skip it and continue to 'install Windows'. It should then look for a current Windows installation on the hard drive, and offer to repair it. It will overwrite your Windows files and leaves the rest of the files alone. If it doesn't find the old installation, and offer to fix it, you can always exit before reinstalling by following the prompts for exiting, and we'll look for a different avenue of escape.

I followed the procedure and thought I repaired my OS since I had to re-enter license, etc. Problem still exists. . . I keep getting MSI errors when trying to install any software. I have admin powers but the errors keep asking me to verify that I do. My frustration is growing and if these problems can't be fixed, I will head to MAC OS and tell B. Gates to stuff it.

I Googled 'MSI errors' and came up with a lot of suggestions - you may want to try some of them before doing anything drastic....

I can't begin to list all the error msg that are in my event log and do not know how to retrieve them to list. Here are a sample of some. Understand that I cannot load my software for my printer (HP) and Virus software (AVG)

    Faulting application msfeedssync.exe, version 8.0.6001.18702,
faulting module user32.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x0000bbcd.

The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( HPSLPSVC ) cannot be found.
The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message
DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use
the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details.
The following information is part of the event: Service started.

    SA_Error1709: StandardAction(0xC00706AD): Product: AVG 2011 -- SA_Error1708:
    StandardAction(0xC00706AC): Installation failed.

    SA_Error1709: StandardAction(0xC00706AD): Product: AVG 2011 -- Error 1923.
SA_Error1923: StandardAction(0xC0070783): Service 'AVG WatchDog' (avgwd)
could not be installed. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to install system services.
