here is my actual situation :
believing something went wrong on my PC (in particular with opening session on another account : mywife's ; administrator; the problem was that the keyboard never wanted to play french ) , I decided (wrong step but!!) to REPAIR my installation which at least at the time beeing was uptodate ; the repair option worked ; and of course , cancelled all updates ;I tried to install SP2 which I had on a separate partition ; did not work , several attemps with the same failure at the end of the procedure ; no error messages aside from : installation failed ; I had to go back to the previous configuration ; then windows update suggested 20 updates ; 19 of which worked fine ,; the last one KB 85 ... failed again;I do not know the reason ; I asked Microsoft IT who first asked me to do that with SAFE BOOT config ; again install failed ; ever heard about that??? Now I can work perfectly ; but windows update cannot install their own patches ; Microsoft is working since a week now . Any clue ???
    Thanks in advance

    Hi, Olivier.

I'm sorry. I am not familiar with your issue. However, I have an idea that might work.

Go to the Microsoft Download Center and search for KB85xxxx (with the appropriate digits in place of the x's to match your particular problem hotfix) and download the hotfix. Then try installing the downloaded hotfix after you have downloaded it. If it doesn't work in Normal Mode, then try installing the hotfix in Safe Mode.

Maybe that will allow your Windows Update to start working again.
