I changed the name of my computer to something simple. Now both names show on my peer to peer network. When I tried to change the name it asked me for the DNS suffix for this computer. Where do I find that? If so, why don't they just say that? Or when i run ipconfig, I get two dns suffixes ... one for the ethernet adapter and one for the ppp adapter. Is that what I use? Is the ethenet wireless dns suffix the one they are looking for? How do I get rid of the old computer name showing up on the network. When I click on it it says it can't be found on the server. Which is true. But I can't stand looking at it.

Also, I noticed in my network connections there is a 1394 connection. When I click on properties, I don't get any clues as to what this is? Should I keep it there?

Thanks so much for your help. You are all there is.

The computer name will evently go away on it's own. Browsing is not, and is not intended to be, a perfect representation of current network resources. Your stale entries will eventually disappear. For more details, see the following link.

Description of the Microsoft Computer Browser Service

The 1394 network connection is created in the Network Connections folder when it detects a firewire network card. You can simply ingnore or disable it unless you're using it without effecting your network.
