We'd like to remove Windows XP from an older computer we have which originally came installed with Windows ME. But when we go to the Add/Remove program, Windows XP is not listed. Can someone give me directions to do this? Thanks.

You can't remove any Windows system from Add/Remove Programs.

Good news though, there are other ways that work well.

Easiest is often to use a Win98 boot disk that has fdisk on it and delete the non-dos partitions it finds.

There are several other boot disks (XP types) that will also do this deed. Some have diskpart on them which is an NT tool. It can do the partition deleting.

    I recommend:

http://freepctech.com/pc/002/files010.shtml Get the XP System Setup disk from there.

    Alternately:

http://www.bootdisk.com/ is a good source. There are many others.

Some have aefdisk on them. It works as well.

You can also boot to an XP install CD and use the tools it has to wipe the partitions clean.

Any of those sound applicable to you??

Keep in mind, this method of removal will remove ALL files from the drive. Back up any precious personal data to separate media.
