I am hoping that someone can help me. I recently downloaded Netscape 7, and since then, I have been shutting down, or just locking up very frequently, and often have to try and reboot the machine several times before it returns to normal functioning. Also, I have found that the email is too small a section and very hard to read. I found that after I had downloaded 7 I still had 4.7, so I tried to return to it. I cannot get rid of 7, it just won't disappear. Help would be gratefully appreciated!

I also have another problem; just after I downloaded 7, I got an email, which had an attachment, from an uncle, who I hear from weekly. This one was garbled and the attachment wouldn't open, but even worse, every time I check my email, there it is again, with the same delivery date and time. I delete it from mail and trash, and still it comes back. Mail from my uncle since then has not been a problem. Again, help would be gratefully appreciated.

PS. I am just going away for a holiday, so if anyone replies, it is not that I am ignoring them or their help, but I would like to be able to use the machine comfortably when I get back

    Welcome to the Forum, H P C!

    Hi H P C,

Sorry to hear that you have had so many problems with Netscape 7.0. Makes me wonder if you meet the system requirements for the program?

To totally remove Netscape 7.0 from your system, follow these guidelines:

Uninstall your current version using Add/Remove.

Delete the mozver.dat file. You can either do a "Find" or locate it in C:\Windows.

NOTE: Do not delete this file, if you are sharing a Profile with Mozilla or another Version of Netscape 6 or 7. This file is shared by both programs.

    Delete:
    C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape 7 folder.
    Delete:
    C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles Folder

    For experienced users only:

    First: back up your Registry

    Delete these Registry Keys:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mozilla
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla
    HKEY_USERS\.Default\Software\Mozilla
    HKEY_USERS\.Default\Software\Netscape\Netscape 6/7
    HKEY_USERS\.Default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MenuOrder\Start Menu\&Programs\Netscape 6.x/7

    REBOOT

If you're overdue for ScanDisk and Defrag, now is a good time.

NOTE: The above paths are for Windows ME/98/95

Here are the locations of your Profiles if you are using an OS other than the above:

    Windows 2000/Windows XP
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\xxxxxxxx.slt
NOTE: These files are hidden by default.

    Windows NT
    C:\Winnt\Profiles\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\xxxxxxxx.slt

I'm not certain what you mean when you say: Also, I have found that the email is too small a section and very hard to read.. Do you mean the fonts were too small? If so, that can be adjusted.

For the looping email from your Uncle:

In Edit|Preferences|Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings
Ensure that "Leave Messages on Servicer is disabled

    With Netscape closed:
Do a "Find" for POPSTATE.DAT, and delete the file. Restart Netscape and see if the Mail is still looping.

If all else fails, the best bet is to contact your ISP and let them remove that email from the Server.

    HTH,

    Ramona :D

    Ramona,

Thank you vry much for such a prompt reply. I will give it my best shot.

I don't really think I am short of requirements, I have only used a quarter of the disc space, and I didn't see anything else that contraindicated the download. Anyway, thanks again.
