I have had a issue twice with my XP SP2 system. Last nithe my Windows frontpage quit responding. Thinking that my software was corrupt I removed frontpage and then tried to reinstall my frontpage 98 disk.
The disk auto booted into the loading screen and when selting to install front page it just sat there, no cd rom activity.
I tried it several times but would not install. I then took the cd and tried to install it on my wifes computer and the installation took off and it would allow me to install.
Her system has XP also. I have a simular issue about 3 years ago when I tried to enter the key code and it would not continue.

Does microsoft have a issue with reinstalling software?

Plase advise before I buy a newer version of frontpage.

    Thanks in advance.

Larry - Welcome to the Board :)
    No

I assume you uninstalled it through Add/Remove Programs?

I suggest you run Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and remove all references to Frontpage and try again.

Yes, I did remove through windows add/remove program.

I was thinking maybe there is something in the reg files that might need to be removed.

Not the familiar with doing reg editing. Hopeing someone has a answer

Petec, looked at the link and did download. When looking at the docs and program it does not allow me to clean up a file that has been remeoved already. It looks like this program replaces the add/remove utility in the control pannel.
Maybe I over looked something in the readme files of the utility program. It did not show any references for and frontpage programs or files.

    Hello Larry,
    No it does not.

    What it does do:
    .
I think Pete wanted you to check if there are any leftover Front Page configuration files.

I'm not clear on whether you ran the cleanup tool or not or just read the documentation :)

The tool lists all software - including non MS software, that was installed via the windows installer as stated in the above quote.

If you did run it and no listing for Front Page, then the problem is elsewhere.

Ok, yes I did run the utility and did not see any frontpage references in the program. My problem must be somewhere else.

I purchased the frontpage cd, used about 2 years ago and installed it. Now I wonder if microsoft has added a program to XP in the upgrades that looks at the programs and if they have been installed elsewhere wont let you reinstall the software.

I would'nt be suprisesd if they did due to the piriate software all over the place.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Not for software of that age 1997/8). Most current MS software requires activation which is a different matter. However, as you posted, the software installs on your wife's computer.

Some info may be garnered from the install log .....

Start > Run > type in %temp% > OK. In the folder which opens look for Frontpage Setup - a txt file. Post the last 20 or so lines here. We may be able to ascertain the cause of failure to install.

I would try copying the CD to your hard drive and initiating an install from there.

    Very possible.
This may be a good place to use/test a program named "RegSeeker "
Use it to serach the Reg for the name of the unistalled software.
I think you will be AMAZED at what is left over. Especially if there is a case that the software has be unstalled/re-installed more than once.
    Bottom Line.
Some ( moxt ) un-installer DO NOT get everything.

This is another reasan that when I install/un-install things I shut down and reboot from a POWER off state to be more sure that RAM is clear.

My coffe cup is empty and Nancy is calling for help.
Will do my best to be back later.

Billybob. After reading your post it occured to me that I have not shut down my system since the uninstall.
After shutting down and trying to install the software, it worked:D

Shame on me for not clearing the cache and ram.

    Thanks for the post

It just saved me $150 for a newer version of Frontpage

Thanks for all that posted ideas.

I just have to post this.

I was going over this post earlier as Nancy walked by and asked what the heck ( that is not what she said but what I can write LOL ) are you doing now ?. So I showed her.
Her reply was "Very nice. Great job. "
And as I write I can hear my Dad saying "Time spent helping others is time well spent. "
And thank you PeteC for your support.
