Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum and not very advanced in computer skills, so take my questions in light of that:) . My wife's computer crashed hard and I wound up having to reformat and reinstall Windows ME. All seems to be well with the computer itself, I am posting this on it now, however we cannot reinstall MicrosoftWorks Suite 2001 because we cannot find the product code that came with this computer (5 year old Dell Demension 4100). My question is where do we find this product code? I downloaded a file that I used to find the Windows ME code. Is there anyway to find it? Thanks in advance

    Best to all, Frank

The product key was on the harddrive but reformatting removes everything...including the product key.

It's not on the installation disk itself. The product key is an algorithm sort of thing so that the key will work on any Works 2001 installation disk.

Looks like your best bet is to call Microsoft and explain the situation. They do want happy customers and they most likely give you a new product key.

If you do get the key, or find the one that's missing, write it on the label side of the Works CDs with a felt tip pen. That way, as long as you have the CDs, you'll have the key.

Thanks for the quick response! That is an excellent idea. I will see if I can get in touch with someone tomorrow. Anyone else? Thanks

My guess is that you'll have to call Dell instead of MS if the Works cd came with the computer. If so the software is OEM software and whoever sold it to you is responsible for supporting it. You can try MS but I'll bet you my first morning's cup of coffee (I really like coffee :) ) that they'll refer you to Dell.

How right you were Zander. Dell Support provided the needed product key. Thanks to all:)
