I have found two programs in my startup menu that I cannot fathom.

I googled them both but my untrained mind cannot understand the responses.

The programs are "Zing Spooler" and "Kernel Fault Checker "

Would someone with a little more expertise tell me what these are and do I want/need to keep them?

"Kernel Fault Checker" - no clue on that one

"Zing Spooler" - I think this one is a utility to assist with uploading files (pics & such) to the internet.

If you have shortcuts in your start menu, it would be lots easier to help out with the name of the .exe file the shortcut points to.

And if you are speaking of registry entries, where exactly are they located?

They both are located in HKEY/Local Machine/Run

Zing Spooler is also located Program Files/Comon Files/Zing/ZingSpooler.exe

    Kernel fault check shows %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k

From what I can determine the kerenel fault checker seems to be a Linux function and where I came from I have no idea unless it was paret of some program I downloaded and later uninstalled.

I'm not confident enough to dig deeply into registry and these two items are in my startup list although not checked to start.

Are you sure it's not KernelFaultCheck ? I've come across this several times before. From my experience, it seems to get put there when windows crashes. I could be wrong. My computer is quite stable so I can't say for sure. I've seen it on other peoples computers and they were always having trouble at the time so.... As for me, XP has only gone down on me once since I got it so I can't say for sure. About a month ago my video driver got corrupted somehow and it brought everything crashing down. When I reinstalled it, I went into msconfig to turn off some of the things that the driver installs and I saw that entry there (it never had been before). I unchecked it and after a week I just used regedit to delete it all together. Havn't missed it yet. On the other computers I've seen it on I unchecked it also and nobody's complained yet. ;)

Zander, I think you are right on. I did have a problem a while back, and had to use the Win XPHome repair utility.

Clicking on your link took me to a site that seems to mimic part of what I see here and I am going to do just what you suggest and delete that sucker.

    Thanks very much.

Thanks Tony T. I have, indeed installed a couple of photo software programs. You have eased my simple mind greatly.
