    A stupid question I am sure.
    I use Registry Editor quite often (Start|Run|regedit|OK). If I just close it after doing something, the next time I open Registry Editor it opens at the same place I left it--with all the keys open. Is there a way to have Registry Editor open with just the list of the various HKEY's?
    Now I have to manually close all the various keys that I opened to achieve that result. A real nuisance.

    ME, 2K & xp do that on purpose.
    There is a hack to have it always open up with the tree closed, but I can't remember where I saw it. Meanwhile, hold down the alt key and press the left arrow to rapidly close the entire tree!

    update;
    found the hack:

    When I'm working with the registry editor, I find it convenient to get back where I was the last time, instead of finding my way back. When I'm done, I highlight anything in the left hand pane and hit shift+home. That will highlight 'My Computer' and the next time it will open 'at the top'.

    Many thanks, guys.
    TonyT--When I use the fix you suggested (which does what I wanted) I no longer can open the Applets/Registry key ( "Permission denied "). And the .reg file back up I made will not work. That made me uncomfortable. See image below.
    I had to do a System Restore to get back the access to the Registry key.
    Is not being able to access the Registry key a problem for any function other than Last Key?
    Christer--Thanks, that is pretty simple, and I feel safer using it. Just like TonyT's suggestion for Alt+left arrow.

    rt click the key and select permissions, you may have to alter them.
    I myself don't use the tweak...
