I tried to search for this and didn't find anything, I apologize in advance if this has already been covered.

When I try to add permissions to my HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT folder in the registry editor the program crashes after I click "Apply" or "OK ". This does not happen when editing permissions for other folders. The reason that I need to do this is because I am installing SolidWorks and the installation does not work because it cannot create or edit keys in the CLASSES_ROOT folder. My folder does not have "Administrators" or "SYSTEM" permissions. I have tried this in Safe Mode with the same results.

What could be the cause of this and how might I fix it?

    1. Download and install subinacl from:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...56-d8fe-4a91-93cf-ed6985e3927b&displaylang=en

    2. Using Explorer, drop a copy of subinacl.exe into \Windows\System32

    3. Using your mouse, highlight the below, right click, Copy. Open notepad and right-click, Paste. Then File, Save as..., and create a new file named fix_root.cmd

    Double click "fix_root.cmd" to execute.

Do not be surprised if this command takes a good amount of time to execute.
