We have an Windows 2000 server named SKMLWEB that has Exchage Server 2000 that has an IP of 192.168.8.3. This server needs to be accessed by the sub domain located at different locations and they access this mail server by Dial-in. We have used DHCP to allocate the Ip Address for the RAS users within a range of 192.168.8.245 to 192.168.8.254. So it allocates an Ip of 192.168.8.254 for the RAS and the client gets an IP between the specified range. Once this setup is enabled in my RAS and if the uses raise the command "Ping skmlweb" they gets the reply as "Reply from 192.168.8.3" as same as my IP Address. But once a remote user dial to my server and get connected, My users get results as if they raise the same command as "Ping skmlweb" they gets the reply as "Reply from 192.168.8.254" that is the IP of my RAS server. This leads to many problem so that while a user access his mailbox from the server he gets the massage as "Exchage Server not Available" since the Ip for the server "SKMLWEB" points to 192.168.8.254 instaed of 192.168.8.3 and not able to share the internet from the server. So please give me remedy for this problem. ie Always a user must get reply from the SKMLWEB as 192.168.8.3 and any cost no other IP must not gets pointed to this server.

By design, users who connect via RAS and obtain an IP address from a DHCP server (the way you are configured) are not really seeing the DHCP server and are not getting any information from it directly.

The RAS server (which should have a static address rather than use DHCP itself) takes the IP address from the DHCP server and manages it for the dial-in PC.

This means that your WINS/DNS server addresses, gateway information, etc. set up on the DHCP server are not passed to the dial-up clients.

The RAS server can and should be configured to provide this additional information.

Take a look at Understanding DHCP IP Address Assignment for RAS Clients - Q160699 for more details and for links to additional information.

If reading through all of that still leaves you with questions or problems, post back with them.
