I think this subject may have been covered previously but I have been unable to find it. My apologies.

Can anyone suggest a replacement program for Microsoft RegClean which will work with Windows XP.

I believe RegClean is still valid, but am not sure.

Whats the difference bewteen all these regcleaners.
    I use RegClean 4.1 first.
Then when I use RegCleaner next, it finds another 10 entries to delete. I delete.
I then use system mechanic which finds another 30 0r 40 entries and I delete these as well.
I then try RegVac and it finds & deletes another 150 entries!!

Can NEone explain what reg cleaning means & why these variations in different progs.

Microsofts Regclean is not compatable with XP and will probably cause problems if you run it, as it did for me. Microsoft last upgraded it back in '99. For reasons only known to MS they didn't bother to further develop it. A pity as it was a good cleaner in it's day, when run in conjunction with other third party cleaners.
I use the upgraded version of RegCleaner contained in JV Power toys.

Be carefull though with this programme as there are bundled some powerful and dangerous features, but the Registry cleaner is simple to use and safe.
As a compliment to this Registry cleaner I also highly recommend EasyCleaner.

To make EasyCLeaner fully compatible with XP you must enter "Help" (without the quotes) in the Clean Registry dialog box.
If you run Office XP you should also enter "data.bak" (without quotes) in the skip dialog box in the unnescessary files search function, 'else Office will ask for the installation cd to repair something that gets deleted.
If you follow these couple of tips these two cleaners should keep the registry in good shape.

    Cheers,

    Paul
