Running WinME with no problems until recently, after changing to broadband. Computer goes through close down procedure but hangs on a BSD. Only recovery is a hot start. Computer will close down with restart option but not a total closedown. All virus checks pass OK. This problem coincides with minor one of computer insisting on a password when booting, despite only one user. Usual solution of empty password does not work. Any ideas out there?

Problem resolved. The two problems were in fact, connected. If the dialogue asking for password was cancelled, then subsequently the computer hung on close down. If a user name was entered, no difficulty in closing down. For some reason installation of broadband had switched Network setting from Windows Logon to Microsoft Networking ... Reversing this setting solved all.
