Using Win XP SP1, FireFox 1.0.3

Installed a new theme, freshly downloaded. Can't remember which, but it opens browser without the tools or other features available. The drop down windows come up solid black -- unreadable.

Believe I selected a faulty theme. Just don't know. Tried reinstall, but to no avail. Is there somewhere in the profile -- prefs. js maybe -- that might permit me to return to the default theme?

Want to get you experts advice before I hunt and peck and make things worse!

I had a problem somewhat like yours, and I was able to correct the situation , in part once, and completely a second time, after which I say no more extra Themes. In both cases I could open FF, but it was dead on arrival. I believe that the Menu Bar was present, but nothing was working. I, clearly, remember which I used the Walnut theme, for several weeks, but a few days ago I had that setup. I made a beeline for the Extention folder of the profile.
I don't understant why it has to be so complicated, but each extention ( and that includes Themes, are in a folder with rediculously long name|chrome|extention.jar. I deleted with FF closed the entire folder, not the extention folder. Example:extensions\{af5b81c7-2587-4206-8b57-41e384facaba}\chrome hides the .jar file name. It worked with an extention, and two Themes, but did not work with the Walnut theme. Honestly, I did not spend any extra time to see if things could get better, but I was able to get a sort of operating browser. So, I deleted the entire chrome folder of the profile. When I restarted FF, everything was back tio normal, but I had to reinstall all the extention.
In conclusion:1. do not trust any Theme
    2. Extentions have been ok, unless there is an update. In such case, do not install the update without removing the older version. I had problems with the prefbar, and the useragent switcher.

    Face not so red now.

    Westside,

Thanks for the quick reply. Tried, sorta, your "fix" -- renamed the chrome folder. No joy.

Went to Start> All Programs, >clicked on Firefox folder and lo and behold there was a selection called "Firefox safe mode "! Who wudda thunk it?

Click on it and I was back to normal! Notice some new theme under the tools selection. Deleted 'em.

So far, all seems normal. Let's hope it stays that way.

    Thanks again,

    Bob
