Ok all of a sudden, when I 2x-click on my Local Drives, it doesn't open in the same explorer. Instead it opens in a new explorer. And now there's a folder in it called RECYCLER. It appears to be empty and nothing is hidden. When I choose to delete it, it says 'S-8-2-49-100002229-100029315-100000604-7895' is a read-only file and am I sure I wanna delete it. I choose 'Yes' and it gets removed. But Next time I 2x-click that drive, it doesn't open and says something like 'S-8-2-49-100002229-100029315-100000604-7895' is missing and can't be located. I thought it may be a virus or something and I do a AVG scan. But no threats were detected. After a reboot the RECYCLER returns on its own in the root of the drive. What is it? And how do I remove it? Is it a threat? Is it a spyware?

Until I fix this problem, the only way I could access my drive's files is navigating through the adress bar in the explorer. So please tell me how do I fix this problem. I am using Windows XP Pro SP2.

To have C:\RECYCLER\S-1-5-21-117609710-764733703-1060284298-1003 is normal. It's the Recycle Bin and should not be deleted. There's one on each drive and the name is "random ".

    Hi cD2052,

It's early (for me, anyway), I haven't had all my coffee yet, and I'm positive I'm misreading your post.

If you want Explorer to open completely to your C:\ drive, do this:

Start | All Programs | Accessories and scroll to the "Windows Explorer" folder. Right-click on it and click Properties. In the "Target" box, cut and paste this in:

    %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e, C:\

And, if the "Start in" box doesn't say: "%HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH% ", amend it.

Now, whenever you access your C:\ drive, it'll be fully opened. And, if you have more than one partition, Change the "C:\" at the end to "D:\" (without the quotes, of course) or to whatever partition\drive you want. Also, if you access your C:\ drive often, put a shortcut on your DeskTop.

See, I told you I'm still half asleep :p
