I am using Outlook 2003 on XPP and I have a problem accessing my hard drive. It is the hal.dll is missing error. I am attempting to fix that but have not had success thus far.

I can attach the HDD to my other computer as a slave and save all of my data but I do not have a recent backup of my Outlook email.

Is it possible to recover my email by saving the Outlook.pst file from within the C:\Documents and Settings\My User\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook folder or do I need the backup.pst file to recover it?

    Thanks in Advance

Just the Outlook.pst file will do it, but you should (of course) also keep the backup.pst file.

I find that the hard drive is failing the SMART test at startup so it is time to replace it. I have pulled it and saved the PST file as well as my documents, etc. from my user so hopefully it will be restored on a new HDD.

Thanks, I shall let you know what happens
