I have an 120GB external hard drive that I will normally keep turned off. Is there a way to get windows to recognize the drive after I turn it on without shutting down and power off?

    Windows 2000 Pro
    Firewire

    Hi Mike,

This works in XP Pro with my SCSI scanner, so give it a try ...

Open Device Manager and, after you power up your HD, you should find "Scan for hardware changes" on the Action menu.

Please post back, to let us know if it works for you.

I should have mentioned that I already tried that to no avail.
