Well, I'm not sure if this is purely a *hardware* problem but I guess I can't post this in "General Discussion" either.

I do a lot of typing on my keyboard, and the following problem is as annoying as it can probably get:

I guess you could call it "keyboard going into *replacement* mode "

When one tries to put in an extra word or edit a sentence from the middle, the general way is to put the cursor in the middle of the sentence and start editing, everything one types gets *inserted* in the middle. The problem I'm facing is that sometimes if I put the cursor in the middle of the sentence and type, I end up replacing white space or letters instead of inserting new ones.

    For instance:

If I try to edit a misspelling of the word "keyboard" which I wrongly spelled "Keeboard ". I would put the cursor between 'e' and 'b', then press "backspace" deleting 'e'. Then I would proceed to type 'y' between the leftover 'e' and 'b'. But I would end up replacing 'b' with the new 'y' and end up spelling "Keyoard ".

I tried to explain it to the best of my abilities :D, if your head is spinning, I apologise. Also, this problem appears every now and then, and isn't permanent (I typed all this without any problems).

If I understand you correctly - and if you are using Word, go ......

Tools > Options > Edit tab and make sure that 'Typing replaces selection' is checked.

    Two suggestions .....

Go into Device Manager and remove/uninstall the keyboard - reboot and let Windows find it again.

Beg, borrow or steal another keyboard for 5 minutes.

Putting this back into Hardware :)

I figured it out! and that too while I was typing this reply!

I was pressing the "insert" key by mistake! On my particular keyboard, the "insert" key is right next to the "backspace" key!

PeteC, you have inadvertently helped me cure my typing problem! This has been bothering me for a couple of months, ever since I bought this new keyboard with a different layout!

I saw that you moved this thread twice to the "appropriate" forum. Now you will have to make a new forum with a suitable title to move this thread to! Might I suggest "Queries from complete Morons" :D
