The best place to look for memory compatibility is the web site of the manufacturer of your mainboard. This will tell you not only what phyical type of memory you need (SDRAM, DDR, RDRAM) but also some manufacturers whose memory works well on your mainboard.

A good place to find memory that's compatible with your mainboard is to go to www.crucial.com and enter the manufacturer and model of your mainboard. Crucial probably makes the most compatible memory of anyone on the planet.

If you put memory in your PC that your mainboard doesn't like, chances are you will get a series of repeating single beeps.

Of course, make sure you have the right physical type of memory that fits into your mainboard or you will damage something.
