I have the original pair of 2MB RAM in their original slots. I replaced the original single 2MB and open slot with a new pair of 4MB RAM. Would it make any difference if they were switched? In other words, switch the pair of 2MB RAM with the 4MB RAM. Thank you.

Don't know if this is one of those old wives tales or not. I have never really noticed and difference no matter how they are installed (of course my brain is slower then those fancy tools that they have to check this stuff with). Have seen on some sites, that the fastest and the largest always go on the ones closest to the back or the bottom. Depends which way the slots run on the MOBO. I have always done like they say.

Generally speaking, on modern mobos the RAM slots are coloured so that RAM can be correctly inserted to run in dual channel or in triple channel.

Your 2 x 4 Gb modules should both be in the same coloured slot - these often alternate with the second colour.

I doubt it would make any difference if you have 2x 2Gb in, say, the blue slots and 2x 4 Gb in the other pair of slots. However, given the choice, I would check the manual to see which slots are preferred if only 2 modules are fitted and put the 4 Gb's there and the 2 Gb's in the other slots..

Thank you both for your help. The suggestion by Pete C is what I did and I have a happy system.
