    Hi i currently own a Dell Dimension 4450 and i need to upgrade the RAM in the system. All i can find out is: takes in PC2700 RAM and the most it can take is 2GB (1GB x 2 slots). I found a "Premium 1GB DDR 333MHz PC2700 Non-ECC 184-pin DIMM (84x8 DRAMS) ". I was wondering if they would work with each other.

    I really dont wanna pay for overly priced items at Dell if u all are wondering =^_^=

    NeoSpawn,

    My guess is that it will work. You can check Crucial.com for the correct memory also. I took a look there and at Dell and could not find a 4450 series system though.

    Hi NeoSpawn...

    Do you have a 4450 or 4550? You mention the 4450 in your post but your signature says 4550.

    According to Kingston's web site on the 4550 you can only have 1.0 GB Max. Same goes for the 4400 (couldn't find a 4450).

    Also found the following on Dell's site...Also only 1.0 GB Max RAM...
    4400 --> http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...milySelection=Dimension&ModelSelection=121750
    4550 --> 400 FSB --> http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...milySelection=Dimension&ModelSelection=124730
    4550 --> 533 FSB --> http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...milySelection=Dimension&ModelSelection=156637

    Do you need more than 1gb of RAM? I have read that 1gb is plenty, even for most business servers nowadays.
    Check the requirements of your software programs. I doubt anything would need around 1gb. Your processor might then become the bottleneck, trying to process the information out of the RAM.
    If you had 1 stick of 512mb plus your current 256mb that would equal...err..768mb...that, I would expect, should be plenty for a non business user.

    Do you want it for anything special (video I guess)?

    Matt
    (If I am behind the times and 1gb is miniscule now, feel free to say so :) )

    Scanning the mags over here norm would seem to be 512 Mb, top end 1 Gb and few of those.

    I have 1.5 Gb on board, but don't see any dramatic improvement over 1 Gb.

    Hi Pete, I went from 256mb to 512mb and my page/swap file never seems to get accessed.

    Do you run any "mega" programs?

    Hi Matt

    Photoshop CS (frequently) and Pinnacle Studio 9 (occasionally) plus MS Virtual PC 2004.

    My page file is fixed size and on a dedicated partition.

    sorry its the 4550 :p and when i looked up specs for it said the max it can hold is 2GB, unless dell is lieing to me. Well i need the RAM because i do 3d modeling and rendering. as i model sometimes i need more polygons to works out details, and it slows the system down really bad.
