I have a RAID Controller on my mothrboard but no SATA hard drives. Is it acceptable to disable the RAID Contoller in Device Manager ????

You should disable it in the computers BIOS instead.

Although RAID doesn't have to do anything with having (or not having) SATA drives...

The BIOS doesn't show the RAID Contoller, it searches for SATA drives during boot up: and the BIOS doesn't show the SATA dives either, but it does show my two IDE drives. Windows keeps asking for the driver for the RAID contoller.
I have to own up to not understaing the purpose of the RAID Controller as I thought it defined how the SATA drives worked together.
    Any help thankfully received

Yep, looks like it. You should have motherboard drivers on a CD to install in Windows I suppose. Then Windows wouldn't keep asking for them.

Still, if you aren't using SATA drives, you should be able to switch it off in the BIOS (at least that what I would want)... Now if ASRock doesn't include that switch in the BIOS, that's a bummer :(

Many thanks, as far as I can tell from the CD that came with the board there are only SATA RAID Drivers. So what I'm thinking happens is that on start up the BIOS searches, finds there are no SATA drives, so when the BIOS utility opens the RAID section is not shown but the IDE ATA section is. So it looks as though I will have disable in Device Manager. It could just be Windows being "padantic ". Many thanks again for your help.
