Hi all, new to the board. Long story short--my hard drive crashed and needed replaced, so I am starting over. I'm having trouble with adding a link to quick launch for yahoo mail. This makes it impossible to multi-task, I used to open it (yahoo mail from quick launch) and get a new window(s), but I never placed it in quick launch it just appeared (before the crash). How can I get yahoo mail back in there? I tried to add a shortcut from yahoo mail to the desktop and then add to the quick launch folder, even tried to drag it to the quick launch toolbar, either way it will not open another window---just reloads the current window. Hope that made sense, any help is greatly appreciated. :) Thanks.

How did you create the shortcut. I mean, did you open a Yahoo mail session and then right click the screen and choose "Create Shortcut?" Do that again and then find it on your Desktop and test it to see if it works. If so, then do a drag drop to the QL area using the "Right Hand" mouse button. When you release to drop it, select "Move Here" from the context menu presented.

Now, if that's how you did it and it doesn't work, we'll have to dig deeper.

In IE click tools>internet options>advanced. In the browsing section make sure the line that says reuse windows for launching shortcuts is unchecked. If not, uncheck it and then try the shortcut.

If you used 'Yahoo! Messenger' before the crash, i believe there is an option to install Yahoo! Companion, which creates shortcuts to Yahoo! Mail, and more

    meg04 --Yahoo's Mail page is a website.
I have never tried putting a website URL into the Quick Launch area. Everything I have in QL are program shortcuts. And for some of them (specifically IE or OE) if I click on one of them while an instance of the same program is already open, I open another instance of the program.
The closest I have come to accessing a website through QL is to set my browser's home page to a website. Then when I open the browser, I get the home page. Perhaps you had Yahoo's Mail page as your Home Page? You can easily reset your browser's Home Page to the Yahoo Mail page by accessing the Mail page, then IE Tools|Internet Options|General tab|click Use Current. If you have a shortcut to IE in your Quick Launch area, you should then be able to open as many instances of IE and therefore the Yahoo Mail page as you want.

You can put any website shortcut in the toolbar and clicking it will open the web page. Copy one of your favorites to the quick launch folder, right click on it, properties>change icon and when you're done you have a shortcut to a certain web page without the usual IE icon. If you click this icon and have the setting I mentioned previously unchecked, the site should open in a new IE window. If checked and you have an IE window open, the shortcut will open in it (or should anyway).

    Thanks everyone for your help

Zander That was the problem, thank you!! It's was a pain not to be able to multi-task when thats all I do. Now to get my driver (I believe) installed for my speakers to work and I will be back to normal---my friend is coming over to do that for me (I'll pass along this site to him also). If I have any problems, I will be sure to check in here again. Again, all that replied thanks so much for taking the time to help, much appreciated! :) :)
