I was trying to redo my one computer I no longer use so I can give it to my son. I managed to ***** it up but finally got it fixed but now when I turn on the computer and windows loads I get the control panel and c drive windows that pop up. when I click on file I see a check mark by the word contorl panel and when I click file on the page C drive is on it also shows a check mark. How can I get these windows to stop popping up when I start up windows 95?
I got this computer from an home study course so it is not like a store bought computer where you can just put in a recovery disk and start fresh. If anyone can tell me how I can get the control panel and C drive window to go away on start up I would really appricate it.

    Hi Pamm,

They're probably in your start menu. The directory is:

    c:\windows\alluse~1\startm~1\programs\startup

If you move into that directory you will probably see an entry for "control.exe" and I'm not quite sure by what you mean about your "C: drive window" but if you remove all entries from that directory, you will stop it from automatically starting those programs.

Other things that can cause programs to start are registry entries, the win.ini and the system.ini files, but in your case these are probably just programs on your startup directory

I am sure your son would have a few less problems if you update
    to Win 98 or 98SE.
Do you have a CD to help you with this ?

I think what happened is I probably got a message asking did I want the windows to open up at startup so I am sure it is my own fault. I am not well and suffer severe fatigue so I tend to not pay attention to things. I will ask my son to buy the update for windows 98 since I live on disability I can't afford it. I never liked that computer and I am sure will hate it even more when my son calls me to fix it when their 3 year old messes it up *lol* thanks so much for the help it is appricated
