Good Morning all of you today, I have a simple question I believe,
I have a small network one server (2000 server) and 10 workstation, my question is the email they user is Microsoft outlook 2000, we get email from the website verizon, now the server is backing up all data………..they asked me to backup the (PST) files on each workstation ........, I have a couple ideas, I do not know if they are the best solution, any help I will appreciate....
    * map a network drive on each workstation pointing the server and place the pst file on this driver ( server hard drive) and make the drive available off line in case the server is bad so they can access the email an pst ,
NOW IS THIS THE BEST SOLUTION..???? ( I just want to back up the email )
    THANKS FOR ANY HELP...
    NICE22

That would be a good solution if you are using real server hardware (redundant everything) and if your hard drive(s) are RAID of some sort so a failure in a single drive doesn't kill your stuff.

Another option might be to do just what you are thinking and then periodically write the pst files to a backup tape (if you have the hardware) or to CDs. That way you are even protected if your server decides to die.

    RE: Newts statement

Your only a paranoid system admin until the morning you come in and the server sounds like a garbage disposal with a fork in it.

    Now you are a psyhic!
