I am running XP with the classic desktop display. When I select PROGRAMS from the start menu, I get a short list with a tan backgroud. If I click on the down arrows, I then get the whole list with the previously missing items having a white background. It seems to be somewhat related to recently selected programs. Where do I disable this "feature "?

Right click on the taskbar>properties and then click on the start menu tab. Click the customize button next to "classic start menu" and in the list uncheck the line that says "use personalized menus ".

Unchecking the menus also disables large fonts which I need. Where is the menu that controls the program list?

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you saying your start menu font gets smaller when you disable it? On mine it makes no difference as far as the font size is concerned so I'm not sure what's going on.

Right click on your desktop>properties>appearance and where it says font size try selecting large or extra large and see if that's what you want. Doing this will change the font size of pretty much everything. If it's only the menu font you want to change click the advanced button, select menu and then experiment with the font sizes until it's the size you want.

Thanks for your help. I guess I am just a victim of XP having a mind of it's own.
The task bar also disappeared yesterday about the same time. I had already fixed everything yesterday like you described. Today I unchecked the personalize menu box and everything is fine. We will see if it lasts all day.

    Program Display

    Hi,
I have a slightly irritating fault in the display of the All Programs display. When opened the window displaying the programs list is displaced downward on the screen such that the bottom listed program text is not visible, being off the visible area of the desktop screen. There is a small gap above this window and the top of the screen but I cant find any way of adjusting the window upward. The bottom listed item can only just be accessed with the cursor and will bring up a sublist if there one. Any suggestions?

From the sound of it I think you need to move the screen up by using the adjusting controls on the monitor itself. Give it a try and see if that works.

    Program Display

Moving the screen window up on the monitor does not seem to make any differrence. I have installed a new grahics card and the program listing has also changed so the problem is manageable now.
    Thanks for the tip.
