    Hello,
Iv'e used zone alarm for quite some time now. I use just the basic zone alarm, the shareware version.Recently, it hasn't been loading up at start up for some reason. So I go into the preferences and click load at start up. Then I would reboot my PC then zone alarm would come up fine. But when i reboot again, only minutes after start up without changing any settings, zone alarm does not come up at all. Then I would go into the settings again and find that the box has been unchecked. Any ideas or suggestions? or should I just re-install zone alarm? Thanks for reading.

Jay12035--It is a little unclear whether you are using ZAFree or Pro.
Pro is Shareware which means you pay for it. ZAFree, of course, is free.
In just the last few days a new version of ZAFree has been released--v6.5.731.0. I do not know if there is a new version of ZAPro.
If you are using ZAFree, and since you are having problems with your present version, why not try it?
Normally I would advise uninstalling an earlier version of a program before installing a new one. And with your problem a clean install would seem best.
But ZA can be difficult to uninstall. Start|All Programs|
ZoneLabs offers "Uninstall ZoneLabs Security ", but as mentioned it is not always reliable.
On the other hand, just installing the new version over the old would be simplest and would keep your settings.
    So flip a coin. :)
P.S. I would hope that installing over the exisiting version would not make things worse, so maybe go with it and see whether the problem is fixed.
If not, here are the instructions for really uninstalling ZA

P.S. ZoneAlarm has a user forum

It is the zonealarm free edition. I'll have to try the new version of it though. Thanks a lot.

I went to Start/Programs/Zone Labs and right clicked on "Uninstall Zone Labs Security "/Properties. In the Target space, I went to the end and entered a space then /clean. It read
    "C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe" /clean

I then uninstalled, rebooted, cleaned registry with Registry First Aid, rebooted and installed 6.5.722.000.

I have had no problem of any kind.

When I upgrade to 6.5.731.000 I will do the same. I think the key is to get all the old stuff out before putting new on top.....

I just did what I said and it works fine with no probs.

Jay is it just the icon not displaying or is the zlclient not listed in your processes?

Both the tray icon and the zclient don't start when windows starts. It could just be that version, because iv'e used other versions in the past and had no problems. It doesn't even exist in msconfig.

Well, I would suggest doing as my other post suggests and see what happens....
