Windows Vista Problem with Windows Explorer.

Ok, so I don't know the first thing about computers or how to work them. Whenever presented with a problem, I usually just ignore it and hope it sorts itself out. But recently I've come across a problem too big to ignore...
Windows Explorer (I think it's the program that's screwing up) isn't working. Here's what's happening -

-I cannot click anything in my taskbar or resize it. Anything I open will not display in the taskbar.
-When I try to access 'Computer', it stops working, or if it does work, it will stop working when I try to access a CD drive, and tells me my memory sticks are blank. When I choose 'close program' when presented with the option because Windows Explorer no longer works, it closes, but doens't restart, and I can no longer see my desktop
-When logging off, the screen stays at 'Logging off...' and does not shut down. I have left my computer be for several hours at a time, but it still stays on this screen.

I've also run into a host of other problems which I can't quite remember or are completely unrelated to the topic, but these are probably the most prominent, because they're basically preventing me from using my computer at all.

Any help would be appreciated, and I aplogize if I sound like a complete idiot.

Don't know if this will help either, but I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium and have had it for over a year

 

Also, don't know if it matters, but every time I start up my PC I get the error message 'NBH has stopped working'.

It does not sound very healthy The more recent versions of Windows seem to have the ability to "keep hanging on" when significant problems are happening. You may be led to believe that the system will keep going, but like you are experiencing, it gets to a point where it just stops working.

You may be able to see what is happening by going to Event Viewer. Look for events listed as Critical. Double-click on them to see more detail.

Generally, it might well relate to adding new hardware or installing new software. Easiest way of overcoming it may be to do a System Restore to a point before the problems started happing.

I can't find much about NBH, is there any more information? The problems may stem from when that program/service shuts down.

Try booting into Safe Mode and see if it is stable.

It may be related to malware, so run an online check from one of the websites listed in the "sticky post" at the start of the Internet Security forum.

If you want information about Event Viewer or System Restore, look them up in Start -> Help and Support.
