    Hi all,

I'm running XP on a laptop and for some reason lately, I haven't been able to run a couple of guitar programs

For Guitar assistant, it says "cannot determine waveform-audio input devices!" For Guitar Power, it says "A system error has occured while trying to open a MIDI output channel. This program will function fully except for playback support. Error Details: A device ID has been used that is out of range for your system. "

I tried to look under Sounds and Audio Devices Properties (in the Control Panel) and I notice that the MIDI music playback area (in the Audio tab) has no entry. When I click to select device, Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth is selectable. Same thing with Voice playback (in the Voice tab) where the default device has no entry and clicking it result in a selectable option.

The problem is that after I click "apply" and then "ok ". The program is still unfixed and when I go back to the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties, the same ones have become deselected again (ie no entry in the box). Am I missing something here?

BTW: the test hardware under the voice tab works ok so the mic is not a problem. The problem again is after selecting everything and clicking apply, it appears that nothing has change.

Any help would be very much appreciated. I'm tempted to format the OS (or at least do another install) to see if the bug is cleared

Assuming that you have the latest drivers for the app and that your laptop BIOS version is the newest, try changing the MIDI configuration using MIDI Mapper in Windows Control Panel.
