There is an answer to this problem on this board - try the search
    function.
If you cannot find, it post back.

Oleaut32.Dll is the wrong version or corrupted. Some other badly coded setup program may have done this for you.
Use the System File Checker to replace the Oleaut32.Dll file located in C:\Windows\System. Start\Run type in SFC, select Extract one file from installation disk, put in "C:\Windows\System\Oleaut32.Dll" in the white box, click on Start in the SFC window, follow the prompts as to where the windows setup files are [CD or c:\windows\options\cabs], allow to save the old file and let it create the folder C:\Windows\Helpdesk\Sfc if necessary.

SFC could do it, but two other alternatives may be easier to use when an oleaut32 overwrite or mismatch is suspected:

Office 2000 repair function (if you got it)?

Download and apply mcrepair patch offered by ms.com:
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/msninvestor/patch/1.0/win98/en-us/mcrepair.exe

This will install a matched set:
Office 2000 SR-1 and the Mcrepair.exe tool both update and re-register the following files with the following file versions:
    Asycfilt.dll (2.40.4515)
    Oleaut32.dll (2.40.4515)
    Stdole2.tlb (2.40.4515
    Olepro32.dll (5.0.4515)
