Hi I bought a new hp printer today but cant get the software to fully install.I keep getting the following message and then have to abort installation:

    File:usb.inf
    version:5.1.2600.0
    location:c:\windows\inf
File does not exist or is incorrect version. The file is a part of windows and is provided on the windows installation CD.

The printer didnt come with a usb cable so I used the one from my old Dell printer. Also the windows installation disk that I have is from my old Dell PC ,my current PC was built by a friend.Ive had a lot of problems with my Dell software and peripherals only being compatible with the Dell PC so could this be something to do with it?

    Thanks

Have you checked to see if the file is in the location stated? You will need to enable view hidden files & folders.

The version on my PC is dated 2004 and is presumably the latest as I run SP3.

Although you can download the file from the internet a copy is attached - rename usb.txt to usb.inf and place in the appropriate folder - it is the version noted. If there is another version present rename it usbold.inf first.

Let us know how you get on.
