My HP Deskjet 5550 died on me and I need to replace it with a good printer. Right in the middle of printing Christmas letters too! Anyways, I paid about $150 for that printer and would like to stay in that price range. Although I don't do allot of photo printing, I would like a printer that does a nice job.

Any suggestions on brands or specific printers would be greatly appreciated. Parallell or USB will work. I will use this on a XP system and needs to be able to network it to another XP system. I assume this is pretty basic any more. Unfortunately, I need to decide fast so that I can finish my letters.

    Thanks for any suggestions!

Just to clarify what your looking for ....
Network Shared .. easy, since all new printers can managed this. Requires computer printer is attached to is turned "On ".
Network Printer ... Printer should have an internal NIC card (allows ALL the printer features be available) to allow it to communicate with the network. Also an available port on router. Then "Install Printer Software" on all computers you wish to print from. I've always stuck with HP, but they are not the printer they used to be. Here is a glance list from Amazon . Could check Bestbuy, Dell, OfficeMax for any specials. Come back with some picks, possible some posters will have some knowledge of the printer.

    Dennis,

Sorry for the confusion. It is the shared printer that I need.

I have always used Canon printers and have found them to be quite dependable and decently priced. Look at any of the Canon Pixmas. An ip3000 or ip4000 would be in the $150.00 range.

Just to close out this thread, I decided on another HP this time. I got a Photosmart 8050. It was at a good price and printed a nice photo. It amazed me that new printers don't come with the cables to run the thing. Anything to make a few extra bucks I guess. At least my Christmas letters will only be a couple days late. :D
