I'm trying to find a way to insert a picture onto the the desktop of Win XP computer, that will have links on (in) it to navigate the user to several programs.

It's a liberary computer with educational databases and I don't want the users to use the start button and play around with the computer.

    Thanks

Why not just use desktop shortcuts to the programs exe files - standard practice ?

    Hi,

It's a long story, so i'll leave the details aside. The main thing is that I want to use a tailor made picture as the desktop, with some text in it that will be used as links to open several programs.

You'd need to use Active Desktop. See How to Configure the Active Desktop

I would strongly advise you against using it, and stick with the conventional way as outlined by PeteC above.

What you need is kiosk software which sets up the comp with security and custom menus. As this is a library comp with edu databases I suggest you contact the school IT dept.
