    Greetings and Salutations,

I need some help setting up pcanywhere on a couple of computers.

    Here is what I have.

My computer is running xp pro and I use a DSL Internet
    connection.

The computer I want to access is running Windows 98SE and
    using a Dial-up Internet Connection.

I have pcanywhere v 11.0 and have done a full installation
    on both computers.

I have never setup or used this program before so I would say
that I am a complete novice with this one and the person on the
other end that I want to access is my mother and this is her
first computer ever so she is even below me. LOL

I have read the help files and gone to symantec and read
up on their support files but would like to see if someone
can talk me thru a setup.

I think that my computer needs to be the remote and the one
that I want to access is the host.

I would appreciate any additional guidance beyond that.

I look forward to hearing from someone soon.

You have it right, you'll be Remote and your mother Host. The Host has to be running (waiting) in order for you to connect.

To connect accross the Internet your mother would have to have a static IP address and you'll want a password as well.

Without a static IP address you would have to connect thru a dial-up. Either way is easy to setup.

I still use version 9.2 so I don't know what changes were made thru version 11.0 but I imagine the basics are still the same so if you need help on something specific write back and I'll be happy to help any way I can.

Your mother's PC will be the Host PC and yours will be the remote (or controller) PC.

Configuration (one time process) on the host system
    - Double-Click on the pcAnywhere Icon on the desktop
    - Click on "Be A Host PC"
    - Click WITH THE RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON on Network and select "Properties "
    - Click on the Connection Info tab and clear all checkboxes, except for the TCP/IP checkbox. Ensure that the TCP/IP box is checked.
    - Click on Ok.
Her pcAnywhere is now configured for access via the Internet.

Remote connection (each time she wants you to connect) requires that she
    - Connect to the Internet. If she has Internet Explorer running, she can now minimize it after she is connected
    - Double-Click on the pcAnywhere Icon on her desktop
    - Double-Click on the Network icon and pcAnywhere will go into the Host Waiting mode
    - Click the pcAnywhere taskbar button to display the pcAnywhere Host Status screen

The "pcAnywhere waiting" window displays the IP Address of the host. She will need to tell you the address (since it will change every time she dials in) and you'll use that number to connect to her and take control. On some versions you'll get a block for a phone number to connect to. Just put the IP address in where the phone number would go.
