I know you can't give me how to circumvent my password not working any more (yes I've checked to make sure caps lock is not on); so do I have to reinstall w2k to get out of this? If I do, will it force me to reinstall all of my programs, etc.? Is there a way just to reinstall w2k without having to reinstall all the programs?

    Thanks!!

If the password you are talking about is NOT the administrator password, then log in as administrator and change the password for the user who has lost the password.

If it is your machine (e.g. you have local floppy drive access), you can purchase a floppy disk from Winternals and a couple of other places which will reset the Administrator password. It costs about 80 bucks.

Otherwise, the only solution is reinstall. (Note: Reinstall will not trash the entire disk and installed programs - unless you ask it to). In W2K, reinstall is fairly painless, just a little time consuming.

If it was a "weak" password, you can easily and quickly hack your own system, using the same tools that hackers use -- but you'll have to figure out how, yourself. When you put it back, however, make sure it is not a weak password that can be easily hacked.

    Hi Will

Well I figured it out, with a little help from google.....and it worked GREAT....I'm sure you know what I mean...I can't afford $80 that's for sure for something that was NOT my fault.

Anyhooooo....2 questions for you, since you are so be-lettered....

    1) why did it make my administrator password not good any more? Just a glitch? That's all I've been able to learn so far on my quest...

    and

    2) so when you do do a reinstall, about how long is that process, minutes, hours or days (hahaha)?

By the way, I do like w2k, it is very nice looking, with the shadowed arrows and stuff.

    Thanks a lot!!

    Deb :D
