I am attempting to expand my C:\ drive from it's current 6GB size (Fat32 BTW).

I used Easeus Partition Manager to create 4 GBs of unallocated space from the adjacent partition, and then told Easeus to expand the system drive using this space. The result was the following error:
"Failed to complete the batch operations. Easeus Partition Manager found some error on the operating system partition. Please fix the error and try again ".
    (just a little cryptic!)

From the web, support personnel at Easeus seem to be pointing to bad sectors, even after the poster had indicated they had run Chkdsk multiple times. Regardless, I ran Chkdsk with the fix option, as well as scanning for bad sectors. (& Chkdks /R). Nada.

I then moved on to Gparted and attempted to use it to expand the partition. Again, another cryptic error:
"An error occured while applying the operations ".

    Now, for the strange part.

XP (Explorer properties) shows the drive as being 6GBs. But, Easeus shows it as being 10GBs as does GParted.

As well, so does XP's Disk Management. The Partition display (bottom right) shows 10, but not the Volume display (top right), shows 6.

Any thoughts as to how I can get XP to see the 10GBs. (given that partition is truly 10 GBs in size)?

    Tx

A couple of things come to mind and both have to do with a failing HD. BTW, I would recommend a full drive image backup before doing any of this just for Murphy's sake.

Since the error message isn't all that clear as to which part of the media has the possible errors, try returning the unallocated space back to the original partition. If that is successful, run a chkdsk /r on that partition. Run one on the C: partition as well.

If both partitions pass muster, get the manufacturers diagnostic software and run it against the HD using the most extensive test available without risking data. A failing HD could be your culprit but that's just speculation.

If you have the available software tools, an extreme measure would be to do a backup image of both (all) partitions and then wipe the drive completely, repartition it as desired and then deploy the images back to the new partitions. If any of that procedure stumbles along the way, it will indicate what I suspect, a HD that is failing. I suspect a the surface media may be damaged in the unallocated space you have created but again, that's just speculation. The manufacturers diagnostics should prove it one way or the other.
