    Hi,
We have a USB 2.0, 80GB External hard drive (G:). We made an image back up of our main hard drive (C:) to this external drive with Ghost 2003. Now we would like to partition the (G:) drive so that we have 2 or 3 partitions; one for our main backup and 1 or 2 for data storage, etc.

We have tried to use Disk Management to delete the partition and also tried to re-format the (G:) drive to do this but we get the following error messages:

    When trying to delete partition:
    “Logical Disk Manager
The request cannot be completed because the volume is open, or in use. Itmay be configured as a system, boot, or pagefile volume, or, to hold a crashdump file.â€

    When trying to re-format:
    “Disk Management
The volume (G:) primary partition is currently in use. To force the format of this volume, click yes.
Warning: Forcing a format might cause unexpected errors in the application that is using this volume. Do you want to continue. Yes No.â€

Does anyone how to find what is open or what is currently in use on this external drive so that we can close it?

    Thanks for any help.

    Hi,
    For anyone that's interested.
    We solved our problem.
You have to disable both the Norton Protected Recycle Bin and the Norton Anti-Virus Auto Protect.
Then you can use the Disk Management Program to delete or create partitions.
