My friend's parents have put blocks on websites so that he can't install programmes, and they have blocked all websites except google, yahoo, youtube and deviantart. However, for some reason, none of the youtube videos will play.

Does anyone know why the videos might not be playing?

My guess would be that the videos are part of the Parental Control.

also, do you know if there is any way of stopping the parental controls, like in the processes section of task manager?

It would be inappropriate to give any guidance on ways of circumnavigating the Parental Controls set up by your friend's parents.

Go to the Support section at YouTube. There will be FAQs and information about troubleshooting the media player. It will probably involve getting a download, so you might be stuck there unless you can get it unblocked.

some programs don't work with Vista standard users. I do know that You tube does work, but if you are blocking Adobe Flash, it might not.
My daughter for example can't use Yahoo Messenger on a standard Vista user account. I have her using Pidgin instead because it doesn't have the problem.
The best way to test parental controls to to unblock everything, then block one program / setting at a time until you find the setting that breaks You Tube.
BTW, there is no circumventing parental controls on Vista that I know of. Its pretty darn rock solid.

Well if Youtube is anything like Newgrounds (which I think it is) then the files (the videos) would be in another server that is being blocked by the parental controls. The same thing happened in my school after the animation teacher requested Newgrounds to be on the white list but the videos would not play and some files would not download.
