    Hi there,
I have 2 strange problems with my Windows XP.

    1) After a rude closing of a hanging application i decided it would be best to restart windows, just in case. XP shutted down and restarted as normal...but it hung in the welcome-screen.
After a longer search on the internet i found out that it could have something to do with standbymode.
I found out that i have to press CTRL-ALT-DEL to enter my Desktop again. But every time XP shuts down it strictly runs into a blue-screen complaining about DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE with 0x0000009F.
    - i dissabled all suspend mode features in windows and the motherboard bios, but it did not help.
    Im stuck with that :-(

    2) Secondly, my pagefile is set to zero size and there is no way to get it to a normal value again. I think this problem could be related to the fact that XP can´t boot or shutdown normaly and thus can´t save the settings on shutdown. So maybe my first problem solves my second :)

Besides those "little problems" my system works perfectly well.
But if there is a rasing hardware problem i would like to know that before everything goes black :)

Anyone out there with a tip on that?

    thank you

First you need to correct the power managment.

Seems like you have more than one problem here. The following if it does not fix or uncover the problem will clean the slate for further trouble shooting.

Time to cleanup, do the following:

    1. Download and install the following, but do not run (that will be done in safe mode)

    Registry and System cleaners

    RegCleaner

    http://www.vtoy.fi/jv16/shtml/regcleaner.shtml
Look in first 2 cols for programs you thought you uninstalled or removed, these are the dregs left by the uninstaller.

Also tag and remove any that you are POSITIVE are not supposed to be on your computer. After removing these go to the top Tools-Registry Cleanup-Do them all. Delete all it finds.

    EasyClean1.7 http://gswi.com/downloads.htm

Run only unnecessary files and registry clean delete all it finds. If you have ME or XP in the "Unnessesary Files" type the word HELP in the skip box. Do not do Duplicate files!

    RegScrubXP

    http://www.lexunfreeware.com/LexunFreeware.htm
    NOTE: W2K and XP only!

Select RegScrub finds problems and remove all it finds.

    Spyware and adware removal

    SpyBot http://security.kolla.de/index.php?lang=en&page=download

Run this twice delete all it finds, leave all it wants to leave after the second run.

    2. Now restart hit F8 to boot to safe mode.

    3. In safe mode

    Configure CleanMgr to max settings
    Go to Start-Run and type

    cleanmgr /sageset:1
The above need only be ran once (these settings will be remembered as the default until another sageset is ran).

It will present a menu select all except compress, then

    Go to Start-Run and type

    cleanmgr /sagerun:1
As long as /sageset above has been ran on this computer from now on the /sagerun is the only thing that needs to run.

    4. Now run all the cleaners above one at a time as per instructions.

    5. Control panel device manager look for devices with problems and remove them. Also look for Unknown devices "?" and remove them also.

    6. Set the Pagefile back to system managed.

    7. Shut down completely. Then back on and check for remaining problems.
