page fault after reboot

    I have a dell inspiron 1150 laptop. It's about 4 years old and has ran pretty good until recently. A few weeks ago I deleted unused programs from the program edit/delete list- Adobe photoshop and some old games. I got the blue screen, and after restarting a few times and trying to make Windows run through choosing different options, it never started- not even in safe mode.
    After a while I got an error message saying "page_fault_in_nonpaged_area ". It tells me to check that hardware and software is properly installed. But there is no way for me to check any of this since windows won't start in any mode. Not in safe/safe with net/ safe with dos/ normally/ last good configuration. :mad:
    I was able to get the computer running again by draining the battery and all that.
    Today I deleted AIM from my computer, it's never used anymore, just taking up space. Went to reboot after the deletion and again i am stuck with the blue screen.
    Any fixes?

    Two possible causes of your problem - no doubt several more :), but the most likely candidates are ....

    Faulty Memory or a corrupted NTFS file system.

    First off locate the memory modules in your laptop - they are user accessible - refer to the manual page 68 and carefully remove them, clean the contacts with a soft pencil eraser running down each contact, not across, degrease with a touch of alcohol and replace. Test

    If no joy and you have two modules fitted remove one and try the other module in each slot and test. Repeat with the second module.

    Good luck - you may need it :)

    If the problem remains there may be a problem with both modules (unlikely) or with the sockets (possible, but again unlikely).

    To rectify a corrupted NTFS file system you need the computer booted up unfortunately, at least to a c:\ prompt.

    If you are able to get the computer running again by some devious means right click on the C:\ drive > Properties and check that it is formatted NTFS and then open a command prompt ....

    Start > Run > type in cmd > Enter

    In the black command window which opens type cd\ at the flashing cursor > Enter which takes you to a C;\ prompt.

    Then type chkdsk /f /r (note the spaces) > Enter - accept the message to run chkdsk at the next boot and reboot.
