    Win XP, Sp2
    Firefox version is 2.0.0.11
Problem: On a lot of sites, the display shows overlapping
fonts. Sometimes i can make out what it says and
sometimes i cannot. Sometimes this condition will not
clearly show entry boxes because its overlaid with other
    characters on the screen.
I have tried changing the settings (larger and/or smaller)
on those pages where the font is overlapping with a slight
improvement for the smaller sizes. Changing the "Allow
the pages to choose their own fonts, has little (if any)
    effect.
I reloaded Firefox (but kept my profile) to no effect.

    My current font settings are:
Under Tools\Options\Content page my setting are:
Default set to Ariel, size 14.
    Advanced i have set:
    Fonts for Western
Porportional: Serif, set to size 14.
    Serif: Ariel.
    Sans Serif: Ariel.
Monospace: set to Ariel, size 14.
    Minimum font size: 14.
Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above, is checked.

Character Encoding Default is equal to: Western (ISO-8859-1)

Still haven't found a solution. Ideas?

    Thanks,
    savagcl

Can you post a site where this is happening?
    Is this site acting up?

    Westside, thanks for responding!

best example is www.toyota.com but there are many other sites that
    give me the same condition.

    Clif,

Try these settings, then the Toyota page:

Default font: Times New Roman - Size: 16

    Under Advanced:

    Proportional: Serif - Size: 16
    Serif: Times New Roman
    Sans serif: Arial
Monospace: Courier New - Size: 13

Enable: Allow pages to choose their own fonts......

These are my settings, and I can view the Toyota page without problems.

I think that it is important have the box to allow sites to check their font.
I never made any changes to the font setting, and, I have Proportional, Serif, size 15, Serif and Sans Serif: Arial.
    Monospace: Courier New ,13
    Minimum font size: None.
No problem with the toyota.com page, unless I select Spanish or Japanese.
Thjere is no easy way to go back to English.

a number to large for some sites to handle....

Have to get my glasses updated (again) :)

    Appreciate the help..

I know about the glasses, and, it may be tough with a cataract, to boot, but, if you had:
, it should not be an issue.
Were you having problem when you unchecked the box? Besides, your font sizes were smaller than mine and Ramona's. So, what is the final story?

    Westside,

Final story is that i set all fonts to size 22, minimum
font size to "none" and turned on the check box for allowing
pages to choose their own font.

    Works just fine now.

    thanks,
    savagcl

I hope that it keeps up that way.
