I use Office 2010 on my Win 10 64-bit desktop.

For years, Outlook 2010 has displayed all incoming email in HTML, if they were sent out that way. Now, it appears that some - not all - are being displayed in Rich Text, without the Web-like formatting; only the internet links being highlighted.

With my two monitors, I can switch to Windows Mail to see these emails in full formatting mode, if Outlook doesn't display them as such. But to respond, I must change the format mode back to HTML, and Mail simply is not as flexible as Outlook 2010.

I've tried to identify what recent update caused this, but haven't a clue. And I won't play System Restore Roulette, trying to restore back to where I think the change was made.

Does anyone have an idea how to fix this, or has anyone experienced this too? I did try using the original distribution disk to 'repair' Office 2010 (Business and Professional 2010) but that did not help.

Thanks very much, for any suggestions you might have,
    -a.

    Hi.

Once again, my thanks for your help. I've just followed the first part of your response and will take a little time to see if that helped. If not, then I'll go to the second suggestion.

I'm all ready to make an online purchase of Office Home & Business 2016; I tried 365 and didn't like it at all. I was hoping that if I cannot find a solution, H&B 2016 was a different type of Office and Outlook than 365.

Have you heard anything about that?

    Best,
    -a.

I'm having a senor moment - I am a Senior Member, after all - and I don't remember where that Auto-complete setting lives. I thought it was a file with an extension like NK or some such ...

Can you help me find it, please?

    Thanks,
    -a.

    Three View of One Email

Seriously? My question has become how does auto complete effect the formatting of incoming email? The original problem is that some - not all - incoming email shows the HTML formatting, so that these messages are just like they would look on the internet, while other emails come in with only the links highlighted. The entire email message is plain text aside from those links.

So while the first part of the suggestion - using the Trust settings to toggle between "read as plain text" and not, it doesn't resolve all the problems; only some of them. And that is with or without restarting between changing that setting in the Trust Center/Email Security section of Options.

And that's why I thought of buying Office Home & Business 2016, but I suspect the same thing will happen.

Folks, this is a less than one year old HP Envy 700-410xt machine, running Windows 10 Pro, version 1511, with 12GB RAM. It worked fine until less than a month ago, when a Windows update seemed to change the game. The problem is that were so many updates - to Win and Office - that I wasn't sure how far back to do a System Restore but now I think I have to look at the date I first posted this call for help, then do a System Restore to the last point before that, in the hopes that I can get the situation back to where it was normally.

And, I'd guess that I have to do the Sys Restore in Safe mode with Networking, as well, so that most stuff is not loaded.

Before I do anything 'drastic,' I have attached 3 views: From Outlook 2010, from Outlook.com, and from Win (10) Mail. This way I hope you can see what is going on in my system.

Any ideas you all might have will be very much appreciated.

    Cheers!

    Thanks,
    a.

    The Nightmare is Over

Okay, so I marked this thread solved. I did what I thought would get me back to Outlook working the way it always did... System Restore to the last checkpoint just prior to posting my call for help.

    And that did the trick!

Thanks for all your suggestions, and your patience while I worked this out.

    Cheers!
