outlook express - remember password

When I open MS Express I get a sign in window that requires me to enter my password each time. There are two boxes below that are greyed out - remember password and log in on startup. How do I get at these boxes to check them? So I don't have to enter the password every time?

The times I've run into this, this solution usually does the trick.
