I would like to start by appologising if the answer to my question is somewhere else in the thousands of topics on these forums, but I am a busy man and I do not have time for that.

Anyway, my home network consists of an old XP Home machine. This is where my internet connection plugs in. However recently I have plugged in my laptop to my PC to share the internet connection. My laptop's O/S is windows 2000 pro. The problem I have here is that they can see each other, they can ping each other, but they can't share the Internet connection. They are working under the same workgroup and they are running under a class C networking type (192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.2).

My immediate thought is that they are running under different operating systems, that Windows 2000 Pro is a business type of software, opposed to XP home, which isn't.

    Thanks.

Sharing the connection with different OS shouldn't be a problem. Did you enable Internet Connection Sharing when setting up the network? Open network connections in control panel and click help, then internet connections.

    Try XP Pro

    Hi,

Windows 2000 Pro is an OS that supports more advance networking. However, XP home is not as good as 2000 Pro in networking. Therefore, i recomend u to put XP professional into the XP home computer. XP Professional is a combines the features of XP home and 2000 Pro. As for your internet connection, try to check if they are configured properly
