i did a search, the only two threads were win98 related. running XP i'm not sure if it is a different way of ridding.

i downloaded an ebay toolbar through the ebay site, until then i never knew this openme existed. it opened a bar in my taskbar but wasn't responding. i restarted and got it again, i did a search and in my prefetch folder is an openme.exe - 399CC912.pf.

i did a search on google but not much luck on how do i rid this.

i ran pest patrol, spysweeper, ad aware (10-03-2005), spybot and RAV online scan. Nothing was found but the fact that the not responding bar appeared in my taskbar shows something is wrong.

    thanks

my NAV2005 never showed any infected files, i see an edit registry option but would appreciate a step by step guide here incase i miss something.

EDIT: i am totally confused here as the openme.exe file is no longer in my prefetch file, according to the search option it is not there but as explained in my initial post no infected files were found so i couldn't of chose to fix it but the bar in my taskbar happened twice the other night but it hasn't since.

i did however knock a startup file off my msconfig, SK2690DM.exe

oh and i deleted the ebay toolbar and no longer use IE6, i have been using firefox and opera for months but when i installed the toolbar it automatically attached it to IE6. could any of my dabblings of fixed it?

i went to start/run/win.ini, there is no openme or Troj/FDown-A.

in the regedit there was no mention of openme.exe like was explained in the symantec instructions (i just browsed and never amended).

That entry is there as a result of you searching your drive for the file. I would suggest posting a HijackThis log on here. This is very good for finding things starting up.
