I'm using windows XP Pro SP2. When I open a second IE screen it opens off screen. I hit Alt+space>move and move the screen where I can see it, maximize it and hit control X to close the window. After that the second window will open visible unless I completely close IS explorer then I have to do it all over again. Also note pad does the same thing unless I set it to open maximized, since you can't maximize calculator you always have to Alt+space to see it. Any ideas. I have done a search in the forums but only found the Alt+space.

It's been a while since I've dealt with this topic but I know there's more than one way offered as a fix for this issue. Perhaps you limited your search, a bit to much, by keywords selected. In any case here's a few more ideas....

    --------------

Below is a cutNpaste from the above link.....

Internet Explorer windows open off-screen, or tiny, or minimised to the task bar. The window will not move if off-screen, and if resized by dragging or using the window buttons, does not keep the size set.
    This trick should work.

Turn off your Taskbar's Auto-hide feature, if enabled, and then maximise the problem window. While the window is maximised, increase the height of the Taskbar from one row to two. Allow the maximised window to reset itself to fit into the new area allowed by the taller Taskbar. Now return the Taskbar to its normal single row. This is to try to make Windows re-calculate the window size and boundaries.

If no joy, run regedit and remove these registry key values which are most likely corrupted:

    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\
    window_placement

    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\
    OldWorkAreas\OldWorkAreaRects

    Then reboot.

Note - there is a known bug that causes off-centre windows - check out the following KB article:

    ----------------
Google groups list: I noticed one specific to notepad but since my filtered search only came up with a small amount of hits I'm linking to the whole list. Most offer the same technique.

htcw454--I wonder if closing the first window, before you close the repositioned second window would help.
