I am trying to delete the Default User profile and replace it with another that I have built specially.

I am being told I cannot delete index.dat because some process is using it. The machine has a fresh install and the logged on user is the Domain Admin with local admin rights. I have tried logging on as local admin but still receive the same message when I try to delete.

Is there any way that I can determine which process is using the file and shut it down?

    Thanks

You mean the Defualt User that's built into the Operating system? Why would you want to do that?

When a new user logs on to the domain for the first time, their profile is built from the Default User profile. I have a pre-built one that sets things like network printers, standard wallpaper, desktop icons, quick launch icons etc, plus a few other things.

When I build a new machine, I copy over the Default User. Most of the time it works ok, but occasionally, I cannot because of the problem mentioned before.

MoveOnBoot will take care of that for you. Download and install it and you will have another right-click menu item added. Use it and select any file you want and that file WILL be gone when you reboot.
