My computer is in my den which is seperate from the house. My other half has computer in the house.

We are never on line at the same time.

Can I buy a network card for her computer and a cat5 cable and unplug mine and plug her's in the DSL modem when sh wants to get on? Will that work or do I need to buy a router?

Yes that will work, but one of you will get plenty of exercise going back and forth to switch it.

Best answer a router/swith combo like the Linsys BEFSR42. Remeber not all routers have more than 1 port this one has 4.

    Advantages.

    No execise. Smile!

Both on at same time if ever needed.

Extra protection of being behind a natural firewall.

    Easy to do!

I've done that exactly and used a 4-port linksys router, then i want'd to connect another puter up that was way up-staires and a hassle to run a cat so i bought a wireless linksys access with card and it works great......no slow down's at all.
